Veterinary Support & Fear-Free Appointment Assistance
Vet visits can be a stressful experience for many dogs and their families. My Veterinary Support service is designed to help make these experiences as calm, safe, and fear-free as possible for everyone involved including your dog, you, and your veterinary team.
This service provides in-person support during veterinary appointments, where I attend alongside you and your dog to help reduce stress, improve communication, and support your dog’s emotional wellbeing throughout the visit.
How this service helps
During veterinary appointments, I assist by:
Helping your dog feel more comfortable in the clinic environment
Supporting calm handling and gentle, fear-free interactions
Observing and interpreting your dog’s body language and stress signals
Helping the veterinary team understand your dog’s emotional state
Providing guidance on low-stress handling and movement
Assisting with positioning, settling, and emotional regulation
My role is to act as a bridge between you, your dog, and your veterinary team to help ensure your dog feels as safe and understood as possible throughout the experience.
Cooperative care & consent-based handling
A key part of this service involves teaching and supporting cooperative care techniques — helping your dog actively participate in their own care rather than being passively restrained.
This may include teaching your dog to:
Tolerate and voluntarily participate in handling
Offer consent signals for procedures such as examination or grooming
Feel more comfortable with touch, restraint, and examination
Build confidence around veterinary equipment and procedures
Develop coping skills for stressful situations
Over time, this helps transform vet visits from a stressful event into a more predictable and manageable experience for your dog.
Beyond the appointment
This service is not just about getting through a single vet visit, it is also about building long-term skills that reduce stress in future appointments.
We work together to:
Reduce fear and anxiety associated with vet handling
Build positive associations with veterinary environments
Teach practical cooperative care skills you can continue at home
Improve your dog’s confidence and resilience
Create a more positive experience for future vet care
Who this service is for
This support is ideal for dogs who:
Become anxious, fearful, or reactive at the vet
Struggle with handling or restraint
Have had stressful or negative vet experiences in the past
Need support with medical procedures or ongoing care
Would benefit from a more gradual, fear-free approach to veterinary handling
It is also valuable for puppies and young dogs, helping to set them up for lifelong positive veterinary experiences.
My approach
All veterinary support is:
Force-free and fear-free
Based on cooperative care and consent-based handling
Focused on emotional wellbeing, not just compliance
Tailored to your dog’s individual needs and comfort level
Designed to support both veterinary staff and families
My goal is to help create a safer, more positive experience for your dog while supporting your veterinary team in delivering care as smoothly and stress-free as possible.
